Five Great Bay Area Adventures for Your June Homeschool

Eat, Learn, and Play all over the Bay

Summer’s here, and it’s the perfect time to take your learning outside! Whether you’re year-round homeschooling or just looking to make the most of this sweet season, here are five local adventures your whole crew will love.

1. Fruit Picking in Brentwood

There’s nothing like a sun-warmed cherry plucked straight from the tree. Head to the you-pick farms in Brentwood — like Berry Best, Chan’s, or Gizdich Ranch — and let your kids experience the joy of harvest firsthand.

Learning tie-in: Talk about pollination, practice weighing and counting fruit, or track your mileage on a simple map!

Bay Area Discovery Museum – Sausalito

Right on the Golden Gate shoreline, this hands-on museum is packed with creative, kid-powered fun. Explore art, science, and engineering exhibits where everything is meant to be touched. Bonus: stunning bay views and outdoor play zones make it fun for grown-ups, too.

3. Codornices Park & Giant Slide (Berkeley)

Tucked across from the Berkeley Rose Garden, this old-school park features a giant concrete slide (bring cardboard!) plus trails, a creek, and redwood hideouts. Relive your Gen X- or Milennial cardboard sliding childhood and take a moment to practice some mindful breathing because this giant slide will make you understand in your bones why your mom was always telling you that you were bound to break your neck.

Learning tie-in: Count rose species, explore erosion near the creek, or talk about gravity while racing down the slide!

Go to: 1201 Euclid Ave, Berkeley, CA

4. Golden Gate Park Windmills + Ocean Beach

Start with a stroll past the historic Dutch and Murphy Windmills in Golden Gate Park, then finish your day with sandy toes at Ocean Beach. Don’t forget a kite! The Dutch Windmill is in the Queen Wilhemina tulip garden, an absolute must-see in the spring.

Learning tie-in: Discuss wind energy, design your own windmill with paper and a straw, or do a mini nature journal on coastal wildlife.

Go to: JFK Dr & Great Hwy, San Francisco, CA

5. The Tech Interactive (San Jose)

For a dose of hands-on STEM exploration, head to The Tech Interactive in downtown San Jose. Your kids can build robots, design roller coasters, or even explore space.

Learning tie-in: Let the exhibits guide your next science unit—or just let curiosity lead!

Whether you hit all five or just one, these outings are a great reminder that homeschooling doesn’t have to mean staying home. Save this list, grab some water bottles and notebooks, and make some joyful memories this month!
